Delatite Wines

Delatite Pinot Gris 2008 - $26
Delatite Dead Man’s Hill Gewurztraminer 2008 - $27.95
Delatite Riesling 2008 - $26

Delatite Pinot Gris 2008

Pinot Gris was first planted at Delatite in 1996 and the first vintage released was the 2001. It’s normally harvested between mid March and mid April and is a blend of Delatitie's fruit and that from the Klingsporn’s vineyard 15km south east. The fruit shows rich flavours of pear, musk and some spice and the length and depth of fruit on the palate is balanced with fine acidity and it will develop beautiful honey tones in the bottle over the next 4 to 10 years

Delatite Dead Man’s Hill Gewurztraminer 2008

This wine is widely regarded as the benchmark aussie Gewurztraminer and the 06 vintage is currently being served in Qantas First Class International – the first Gewürztraminer to be selected.  Normal harvest dates are between mid March and early April and after crushing the must is chilled and then left in the press to cold soak for a few hours. This helps to extract the delightful and enticing flavour and aromas of musk sticks, rose petals, Turkish delight and lychee typical of this grape. Post fermentation, the wine was left on lees in tank for four months to enhance and lengthen the full palate. It’s a floral, spicy wine matched with well balanced acid and can be enjoyed now or cellared with confidence for up to 10-12 years.

Riesling 2008

The Riesling fruit was picked over the last week in March and the first fortnight of April, with the warm and dry weather preceding the harvest making it one of the earliest vintage in 35 years for Delatite. The wine shows strong grapefruit and lime aromas, combined with some regional floral tones; it has great length of flavour, a mineral finish and a lovely crisp natural acidity. This is a wine to enjoy when young, or to cellar with confidence for up to 15 years.

2008 Dragon Rose - $16.95

Vibrant pink.  The bouquet of this lively wine offers an array of spicy berry fruits with hints of watermelon and fairy floss adding a confectionary element to the background.  The palate is medium bodied, with splashes of zesty cranberry and raspberry fruits combined with ruby grapefruit and hints of lemon sorbet. The crisp acidity and dry berry fruit finish makes this wine wonderfully refreshing - perfect for summer.

The 2008 vintage began in mid February, following good winter rains and an ideal early summer, providing near perfect growing conditions and an almost textbook finish to the season. This ensured all varieties were able to be harvested at optimum maturity. The grapes for this wine were sourced from a single vineyard in the cool Karridale sub region of Margaret River

Running with Bulls Tempranillo 2008 - $24

Tempranillo is a widely grown varietal in Spain where it is vinfied into traditional red table wines. It is also proving to be well suited to many winegrowing regions within Australia. Tempranillo has found a natural home in the Barossa where it produces an exciting wine, bright in colour and rich in fruit flavour.  Bright red in colour. Floral aromas of rose petal and raspberry with a hint of nutmeg. A juicy, mouthwatering palate, finishing long and lingering over subtle gravelly tannins.

"An outstanding Australian tempranillo, with its core of tangy fruit, that distinct maraschino cherry note and mulberries but not a fruit bomb - hallelujah! With a whiff of dried Mediterranean herbs, savoury with soft, plush, sweetish tannins tempered by tangy acidity and terrific length; a fabulous drink! "

2007 Steely Dan Clayfork Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc - $25

Winemaker Ant Moore sources fruit for the Steely Dan Sauvignon Blanc from the Clayfork vineyard located high on the Waihopai Ridge in Marlborough. The clay soils produce wines of great intensity with strong tropical fruit characteristics.

Bright pale straw colour with water like hue. Delicate top note of ripe gooseberry, followed by spice, tropical fruit and confectionary. The nose shows distinct varietal character, yet has the restraintof a top Graves white. There are parallels to Chateau Guiraud’s G with some yeast lees evident over a background of citrus and gooseberry.

rum

Ron Zacapa Centenario Reserva - $99

Recognised as the "cognac" of rums, Zacapa Rum is made near the Pacific coast of Guatemala.  Zacapa is actually NOT a molasses-based rum, and is instead made from the “pure sugar cane honey” or the juices from the first press of sugar cane, much like a rhum agricole .  These juices are distilled into a fantastic rum which is aged in white oak casks high in the Guatemalan mountains in the region of Quetzaltenango.  During the rum’s 23 year tenure in the cellars, every facet of their environment is monitored, including the temperature, humidity, light, and even sound levels (according to the Industrias Licoreras de Guatemala website).

The Ron Zacapa is a darker rum.  Rather than a typical amber color, this rum is a deep, rich brown (rich is a word that will continually be used in describing aspects of this rum).

The Zacapa is sweet.  There’s no way to argue otherwise.  Your tongue is instantly enveloped in flavors of molasses, cocoa, and honey, with a slight woodiness to the finish.  There is very little burn, and this is easily one of the smoothest rums I have ever sampled, possibly only outdone in its smoothness by Ron Matusalem Gran Reserva and Temptryst Cherrywood.

Ron Zacapa Centenario XO Solera Gran Reserva Especial -$200

This limited-release Zacapa XO Solera Gran Reserva Especial (in a stylish flat decanter) won Gold in the Super-Premium category at the International Rum Festival for several years after its release in 2000, and was given the Platinum award for the Super-Premium category in 2002.

port

Fonseca Porto Guimaraens 1987 20 Year Vintage Port - $59.95

Fonseca Porto Guimaraens 1987 20 Year Vintage Port, This wonderful twenty year old port comes from the Guimarens vintage. Each year the finest wines produced are selected, if, after two years "in the wood" those wines judged above average in quality are set aside for the master wine blender. The master selects the wines best suited to produce the most excellent wines to be laid down for the Guimaraens Vintage . Fonseca vintage port is made only in the classic vintage years which produce wines of outstanding concentration and longevity. Vintage port ages in the bottle and should be stored horizontally with the label upper most. With time, the port forms a natural deposit or crust in the bottle and therefore requires decanting.

ginger liqueur

Domaine de Canton - $69.95

Domaine de Canton is made in Jarnac, France in the tradition of colonial indochine in which ginger infused elixirs were blended with fine Cognac. Fresh baby ginger is cut by hand, twice infused with Grand Champagne VSOP Cognac, and then blended with vanilla and orange blossom honey from Provence. Its taste is fresh, intense, with interesting notes of orange and cognac and rich, yet clean finishing sweetness. Canton can be enjoyed straight, on the rocks, or in a number of fine cocktails.
